On
june 19,2019, mexico became the first country to approve to replace 25 year old
trade deal north American free trade agreement and named as united
states-mexico-canada agreement. The USMCA has been modified to include changes
for automakers, stickter labor and environmental standards, intellectual
property protections, and digital trade provisions.
Us
president Donald trump, Canadian prime minister justin trudeau and mexico’s
then – the president Enrique pena nieto had signed the deal in November 2018
but it still needs to be ratified by all three governments. The USMCA was
retified with 114 senators voting in favor and 4 against it.
